Imagine Dragons LIVE
Milwaukee Wisconsin is most widely known for its beer, fish frys, and Harley Davidson motorcycles. What many people may not realize is that every summer Milwaukee hosts the world’s largest music festival in the world: Summerfest. This summer I made sure to cross off seeing one of my favorite bands, Imagine Dragons, off of my bucket list. What I did not realize was that I would be part of a once in a lifetime event that will be talked about for years to come around these parts. The first time they played at Summerfest they performed in front of a mere 200 people. In a remarkable rags to riches story the band become a huge sensation in a short time and quickly rose to the top of the charts. This year they played in front of 20,000+ screaming fans that completely swarmed the entire park.
The band drew such a large audience that the staff at the gates were forced to allow people in for free because they could not keep up with the demand. Thankfully I was there early enough to snag seats in the fourth row because the seating bowl quickly filled up. By the time the band entered the stage at 10 p.m. a sea of humanity stretched out as far as the eye could see. But everyone in attendance was rewarded with an awesome show that left my ears ringing. Yes, it was crowded, and rowdy, and there were plenty of drunks to go around. But how often do you get to say you got to attend the largest free concert in the 46 years of Summerfest history?
Plus I got to spend the day with some pretty awesome people who made the 10 hour wait bearable and even entertaining. Milwaukee certainly knows how to host a music festival.
